Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel, has been placed on standby for a call-up to his national team, this according to owngoalnigeria.com.
Nigeria are set to have a training camp in France this month and it was reported that two of their regular goalkeepers, namely Carl Ikeme and Daniel Akpeyi might miss out on camp due to injury and club commitments respectively.
However, as reported on owngoalnigeria.com, the Super Eagles will have two other shot-stoppers filling in for the injured duo and Coach, Genort Rohr and his technical team feel that the team needs a third goalkeeper and indicated that Pirates’ Daniel could be set for a national team call-up.
“Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel who has trained with the team in the past has been placed on standby by the technical crew, pending on when they get an update on the fitness of Ikeme,” as quoted on owngoalnigeria.com.
It was confirmed by Soccer Laduma on March 30, that Pirates have registered Daniel for the 2016/17 season, however, the player is yet to make his official debut in the Buccaneers colours and now the 23-year-old shot-stopper could be given the chance to represent his home country, Nigeria, later this month.
