South African attacking midfielder, Ayanda Patosi, was named as the Belgian Pro League Player of the Week recently, as voted for by the readers of the league’s official website.
Patosi’s Lokeren currently find themselves in fifth place on the table following their 3-0 Boxing Day win over Nyasha Mushekwi’s KV Oostende, although it was Patosi’s performance a few days earlier that caught the eye.
The 21-year-old, who is believed to be a target for Chelsea and Ajax Amsterdam, put in a fine performance last week as Tricolores beat OH Leuven 2-0, playing a vital role in the victory and coming close to grabbing a goal when he struck the crossbar.
This vote of confidence from Belgium’s football fans will do wonders for the Bafana Bafana international, who is in the process of getting back to his best following an injury that kept him out for the second-half of last season.
Media speculation in Europe has linked Patosi both Chelsea and Ajax in recent weeks, with the Daily Mirror claiming that the former could make a £1.5 million (R25.5m) move, although it would seem that he is fully focused on getting back to his best for Lokeren before thinking too hard about where his future lies.
The Siya crew reported back in December 2012 that the two European giants had sent scouts to watch the youngster, and it seems that they were impressed with what they saw.
