One of the seven players released by Kaizer Chiefs has already found a new club.
Brylon Petersen, 25, has joined Maritzburg United and will reunite with coach Ernst Middendorp in the Midlands as both were at Naturena just a year ago.
The young goalkeeper did not get a chance to unseat Itumeleng Khune at Chiefs, but was highly regarded having been signed following an impressive spell in the Varsity Cup playing for Wits and subsequently handed a contract by the Glamour Boys.
Petersen is also one of few footballers with a BSc Engineering degree and already has something to fall back on when he does eventually hang up his gloves.
The move to Maritzburg, as confirmed by the club on its social media channels, means that the shot-stopper will compete for the No.1 spot alongside Marcel Engelhardt, the German who joined the Team of Choice six months ago.
With Jethren Barr and Bongani Mpandle leaving Maritzburg at the end of last season, Middendorp was always going to be keen on bringing in a replacement, and one that he can trust given how crucial the goalkeeping department is.
So, Petersen is expected to fight to be first choice.
