Rantie’s Race Against Time

AFC Bournemouth’s new South African signing, Tokelo Rantie, is in a race against time to sort out his paperwork in order to make his debut this weekend.

The club’s head coach, Eddie Howe, and his assistant, Jason Tindall, attended an FA hearing earlier this month in order to secure the Bafana Bafana striker a work permit, something that was subsequently given the all clear.

The final piece of the puzzle is Rantie’s visa, which hasn’t been granted as of yet, meaning that as it stands he will not be available for the game against Blackpool on Saturday.

However, Howe remains confident that the 23-year-old can play a role in the game. He told the Bournemouth Echo, “We are hoping to get everything finalised before Saturday but we are in the hands of the authorities. We are hopeful he will be here because we think he would give everyone a boost.

“It doesn’t make my plans difficult and it would be great to have him involved for Saturday. We will give him all the time he needs to try to get everything sorted and to get himself here.

“These things take time and there are processes you have to go through. I don’t anticipate any problems. We are just in a race against the clock.”

Rantie played in Bafana’s 4-1 win over Botswana last weekend and is expected to arrive at his new club in the next day or so.
