Rantie Pleased With Bournemouth Debut

AFC Bournemouth’s record signing, Tokelo Rantie, made his debut from the bench last night, helping the team grab a 1-0 win over Barnsley.

The 23-year-old striker joined The Cherries before the end of the last transfer window, although due to a delay regarding his work permit, visa and international duties, he had to wait until this week to begin training with the club.

However it seems it was something worth waiting for, as Rantie put in a good performance for his new club, coming on at 0-0 and helping to change the game in Bournemouth’s favour.

In an interview with his club’s official website the Bafana Bafana man said, “It’s almost the same as where I’m coming from, the reception made it easier for me to do my job on the field. I didn’t expect the fans to clap and cheer like they did, and I’m very grateful for that.

“It’s not that different, it’s only the tempo of the game, you have to switch from defending to attack in a split second and that’s different to where I’m coming from. It shows that I’m at another level and I’ll have to adapt quick.

“I need to work more on my scoring. For me, I can do the dirty work and sometimes I tend to miss easy chances so to say, but it’s something that I have to work on and I’ve mentioned it to the coach and the technical team is willing to help me. Hopefully it’s something we can do as quick as possible.

"Sometimes I focus more on scoring instead of putting my head up to see who is available. But it's football, we learn every day."

Rantie will now be hoping to make his first start for the club when they take on Middleborough at the weekend.
