Masenamela signed for Chiefs in 2008 and spent three seasons with the club before moving on to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2011.

The 28-year-old struggled during his spell at Chloorkop and now finds himself on the books of Rise and Shine, he recounts how he began his professional career.

“I was going through a lot at that time. I had to decide and make sacrifices. I mean, I had to leave school and I had a scholarship to go and study in the United Kingdom. Page had to come to my home and talk to my brother,” Masenamela said.

“He had to convince them that this boy was going to make it. It was a big sacrifice because I thought I was going to quit football. I remember I was playing for M Tigers and I came back from the play-offs.”

“Abel Shongwe (former Kaizer Chiefs striker) told me Chiefs were looking for a left back. There was a game they were going to play in Soweto. David Mathebula (former Chiefs and current SuperSport United midfielder) told me, ‘You shouldn’t look down on yourself. You must just come and see what you can do.’”

“We played that game and there was a second match as well. Abel told me not to play because he was calling the chairman (Kaizer Motaung). He said they are going to give me a three-day trial. After training with them on the first day, Muhsin Ertugral (former Chiefs coach) said, “Punch, you are not going anywhere!” I was so happy,” he concluded.
