The PSL’s only representative in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia has opened up about his chances of playing during the global football showpiece.
Chippa United’s Daniel Akpeyi is the only PSL player at the World Cup, with the 31-year-old shot-stopper having been selected to the Nigeria senior national team’s 23-man squad for the global football tournament.
The goalkeeper has told Nigerian media that he is capable of keeping goal for the Super Eagles at the World Cup.
According to reports in Nigeria, Akpeyi could find himself third in the pecking order behind the duo of Francis Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who are both favoured ahead of the Chilli Boys' first team goalkeeper.
“We are teammates and not rivals and whoever is selected to be in goal will get my backing as usual. With all due respect to the goalkeepers here, I’m the most experienced and I believe I will do well if selected by the coaches,” Akpeyi told Owngoalnigeria.com.
Akpeyi made 23 league starts for Chippa last season as he solidified his position as the first choice goalkeeper for the Port Elizabeth outfit.
