Absa Premiership: Bidvest Wits 1-3 Free State Stars
Date: 15 March 2014
Venue: Bidvest Stadium
Free State Stars shocked in-form Wits 3-1 at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday in an Absa Premiership clash thanks to a treble by Richard Henyekane.
Free State Stars started off the game stronger than their hosts at the Bidvest Stadium and had a dangerous Richard Henyekane cross which was well cleared by Phumlani Ntshangase in the 12th minute of play.
Angelo Kerspuy then had a shot in the 21st minute but it did not test Moeneeb Josephs in the Wits goal.
The Free State side then broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when Henyekane latched onto a pass from Luyolo Nomandela before firing Stars into a 1-0 lead at Bidvest Stadium.
Gavin Hunt’s men failed to create any clear-cut goal scoring opportunities throughout the first 45 minutes of play and went into the half-time interval a goal behind.
The second-half started where the first had let off, with both sides struggling to break down the oppositions defence.
Henyekane then went on to grab a second and then hat-trick goal in the 70th and 87th minutes respectively before Robin Ngalande clawed a goal back for the home side.
