Result: Maritzburg 1-2 Wits
Date: 10 February 2015
Venue: Harry Gwala
Bidvest Wits maintained third position in the Absa Premiership standings with a 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United on Tuesday.
The Team of Choice were first out of the gates as they opened their league goal-scoring for the year in the 18th minute. Ashley Hartog instigated the attack with a pass through to Mohammed Anas who provided the finish.
However, the lead lasted for only nine minutes as the Cleverboys equalised. An individual effort from Thulani Hlatshwayo broke the hosts' defence as he grabbed the leveller.
The teams looked set to enter the dressing rooms for half-time still tied at 1-1, but in the 45th minute Lemessa Fikru-Tefera found the back of the Maritzburg net to give Wits the lead for the first time.
Both sides had chances in the last 20 minutes as Thamsanqa Mkhize missed wide with a headed effort before Jabulani Shongwe shot wide at the other end of the pitch, but neither team could find the target and Wits claimed the narrow victory.
Wits are level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns, who occupy second position due to a superior goal difference.
