Essau Kanyenda grabbed a brace as Polokwane City picked up a vital three points in the 2-1 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Kanyamazane Stadium in an Absa Premiership clash on Sunday.
Polokwane City broke the deadlock with the first real chance of the game as Jabu Maluleke played in Kanyenda who produced a neat finish to give the visitors a 1-0 lead with 14 minutes on the clock.
Neither side was able to create anything else going forward with City taking their one goal lead into the first-half interval.
The second-half at the Kanyamazane produced way more action with Themba Zwane forcing a good save out of Modiri Marumo five minutes in.
Barker’s men then levelled matters when Abia Nale latched onto a pass from Mabhuti Khenyeza before firing home with his left foot to make it 1-1.
City’s goal scorer Kanyenda then won the relegation battlers a penalty after being brought down in the box by Aces keeper Bafana Nhlapo. Vukile Mngqibisa stepped up to take the spot-kick but he was unable to find the target and the scores remained level at 1-1.
Boebie Solomons men however did reclaim the lead as Kanyenda popped up to claim his second of the game in the 62nd minute thanks to an assist from Kabelo Lichaba, keeping their bid to avoid relegation firmly in their own hands.
