Polokwane City registered a hard earned 2-1 win victory over University of Pretoria in the Absa Premiership match played at Tuks stadium on Saturday to keep their hopes of surviving relegation alive.
Boebie Solomon’s side made their intentions clear from the opening minutes of the match creating a number of chances, but failed to convert them.
The win sees City moving to position 14 ahead of Free State Stars, who lost to Amazulu also on Saturday night.
City broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 44th minute, after Buhle Mkhwanazi fouled Sipho Jembula.
Vukile Mngqibisa easily got the better of Washinton Arubi from the spot-kick for the opening goal of the match.
Mkhwanazi earned himself a yellow card from the incident.
The match went to the half time break with City still holding on to their one goal lead.
Thobani Mncwango increased the lead in the dying minutes of the game to make it 2-0 for Polokwane City.
City’s captain Thapelo Tshilo scored an own goal in the 90th minute, but it was too late for Tuks to get another, as the match came to an end shortly afterwards to hand the visiting team their sixth win of the season.
