Sundowns Go Level With Chiefs

Goals from Anthony Laffor and Lebohang Mokoena secured a 2-1 win for Mamelodi Sundowns over the University of Pretoria in Absa Premiership encounter at Loftus Stadium.
 
The win moves Pitso Mosimane's side level on points with Kaizer Chiefs but remain in second spot due to their inferior goal difference, while AmaTuks' remain in 11th spot.
 
Thabo Mnyamane could have opened the scoring in the 12th minute but the AmaTuks' winger managed to drag his effort wide of the target, after a delightful through by Thabo Mosadi.
 
Surprise Moriri nearly opened the scoring in spectacular fashion in the 31st minute as the veteran midfielder tried to catch Washington Arubi off his line from inside his own half, but the AmaTuks keeper managed to tip the effort over the bar.
 
Kennedy Mweene came to his side's rescue in the 39th minute to deny the visitors the opener, as he got down well to deny Thabo Mosadi from close range.
 
Just a minute later and Arubi denied Sundowns the opener as he did well to keep out Dove Wome's stinging effort.
 
Anthony Laffor opened the scoring just before the halftime break, as he headed home Hlompo Kekana's floated cross.
 
Mnyamane tried his luck from distance 10 minutes after the halftime break but the Tuks winger fired his free kick straight at Mweene, who comfortably held on.
 
Alje Schut should have increased the hosts lead in the 58th minute but the Sundowns captain placed his header wide of the target from close range.
 
The visitors leveled matters in the 63rd minute through Atusaye Nyondo's well placed header, after the Sundowns defence failed to deal with AmaTuks' long throw-in.
 
AmaTuk's joy was short lived, as a minute later, Sundowns restored their lead as Lebohang Mokoena headed home Bongani Zungu's well weighted cross.
 
The visitors failed to trouble the Sundowns defence in the closing stages, as Sundowns did well retain posession and frustrate their opponents.
