Moriri Sends Sundowns Top

Absa Premiership

Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 Bloemfontein Celtic

Date: 9 April 2014

Venue: Loftus Stadium

Surprise Moriri's first half header secured a 1-0 win for Mamelodi Sundowns over Bloemfontein Celtic in their Absa Premiership clash at Loftus Stadium.

The win sees Sundowns move to the summit of the Absa Premiership log table, while Celtic remain in eighth.

Rashid Sumalia almost opened the scoring  for Sundowns after just three minutes but the defender's header was easily dealt with by Patrick Tingyemb.

Celtic's Clayton Daniel tried his luck from range just a minute later as the defender's low-driven effort was comfortably dealt with by Kennedy Mweene.

The hosts threatened again in the 15th minute as Khama Billiat went on surging run before firing at Tingyemb, who got down well to deny the Sundowns midfielder.

The home side eventually took the lead after their early dominance in the 24th minute as Surprise Moriri headed home Teko Modise's well taken free-kick.

That was as good as it got in the opening stanza, as far as goal-mouth action was concerned.

The home side threatened five minutes after the restart as Moriri managed to head wide of the target, after being picked out by Langerman.

Anthony Laffor almost double the Brazilians lead in the 60th minute but the striker's glancing header produced a fine save from Tingyemb.

Joel Mogorosi tried his luck from the edge of the area five minutes later but the Celtic midfielder fired his effort just wide of the right-hand post.

Rodney Ramagalela almost increased the home side's lead in the 85th minute but the striker's effort from the edge of the area flew inches wide of the right-hand post.

Mogorosi could have leveled matters in the 89th minute but the Celtic midfielder headed over the crossbar, after getting on the end of Keagan Buchanan's long ball.
