Langwe Strike Seals Win For Wits

Absa Premiership
Result: Bidvest Wits - Platinum Stars
Date: 9 April 2014
Venue: Bidvest Stadium
A late strike from Asive Langwe secured a hard-fought 1-0 win for Bidvest Wits over Platinum Stars in a Absa Premiership clash at the Bidvest Stadium.
The win sees the Clever Boys remain third on the Absa Premiership log, while Dikwena are unmoved in ninth spot.
The first half proved to be a dull affair at the Bidvest Stadium, with only one registered in the entire half, as Calvin Kadi' strike from distance went just wide of the left-hand post.
The second half started with a much higher tempo with Kadi nearly opening the scoring four minutes after restart with a thumping header which crashed onto the woodwork.
After a quiet spell from the hosts and Dikwena, the game seemed to spark into life in the final 15 minutes as Asive Langwe's simple finish from six yards out gave them the lead.
A minute after scoring the opener, Langwe could have doubled Wits' lead but the winger's powerful strike from distance produced a fine save from Siyabonga Mpontshane.
The home side threatened again three minutes later as Sibusiso Vilakazi's strike from inside the area went wide of the mark.
It was poor night for Allan Freese's men as they failed to register a single effort on goal in the entire match.
