A top official at one of the Absa Premiership clubs has weighed in on the promotion/ relegation battle that is currently underway.
Maritzburg United, who finished the 2018/19 season in 15th place on the Absa Premiership log, are competing for a place in Mzansi’s top-flight for next season, with Royal Eagles and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC, the two clubs that finished in second and third place respectively in the National First Division.
With Eagles having lost 2-1 against TTM at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, Maritzburg are in a favourable position to retain their PSL status.
Eagles and TTM have both collected three points so far during the play-offs, while Maritzburg are in pole position with six points.
With Eagles set to battle it out with Maritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal derby on Wednesday, AmaZulu’s general manager Lunga Sokhela has come out publicly appearing to be in support of the Team of Choice.
“So a win for Maritzburg on (Wednesday) will mean they stay up. It will be good for them and the Province,” Sokhela wrote on his official Twitter account.
