PSL Charge NFD Clubs

A host of National First Division teams appeared before the PSL’s Disciplinary Committee and were charged for various offences.

Jomo Cosmos’ Shane Thompson and his club were charged after an incident took place after the game against Blackburn Rovers on November 23 last year, when Thompson insulted match official, Nkosinathi Mahono, by directing racial abuse at him.

According to the PSL, “Both parties denied guilt but have both been found guilty as charged. The League as well as two Respondents are to submit written heads pertaining to sentence where after the Disciplinary Committee will make a written finding with regards to sentence.”

FC Cape Town were charged with contravention of Rule 11 in that during their fixture against Thanda Royal Zulu at Umhlathuze Stadium, the Cape side started the game with a player, Siphiwe Gwala, that according to the club’s team list was supposed to start the match on the substitutes bench.

"The change was done without informing the match officials before kick-off. The club admitted guilt and paid an admission fine of R5 700," said a PSL statement.

Meanwhile, Black Leopards were charged with contravening Rule 8.9.6 after they failed to provide a minimum of eight appropriately trained stretcher bearers who must be at least basic life support providers to remove injured players or match officials from the field of play.

The medical personnel only arrived five minutes after the commencement of their fixture against Blackburn Rovers on 19 October 2013 at Seshego Stadium. The club admitted guilt and paid an admission guilt fine of R5 700.

Baroka FC were charged with contravening the Media Manual when their club representative and a media officer failed to attend the pre-match meeting three hours before kick-off of their fixture against FC Cape Town on 18 December 2013 at NNK Rugby Stadium. The club pleaded guilty and paid an admission guilt fine of R5 700.
