FIFA has confirmed South Africa’s 2021/22 season calendar and transfer window dates, but there remains a veil of secrecy from the Premier Soccer League.
According to the world football governing body, the new campaign has been pencilled in from August 1 until June 30 next year and also revealed that the registration period commenced from July 1 and the window will slam shut on August 31.
These dates, Siya sources have confirmed, would have been officially lodged by SAFA to FIFA to make sure they are captured by the world governing body, as is the case with the rest of their counterparts around the globe.
But it does not mean those are the exact dates for the campaign, seeing as there has been no announcement yet from the PSL on when the season would kick off – as long as the games are wrapped up by June 30.
It’s clear that the Royal AM saga has held them back with club president Shauwn Mkhize hellbent on contesting the legitimacy of the court order that effectively crowned Sekhukhune United as the GladAfrica Championship winners.
They want to be promoted to the DStv Premiership campaign instead, and this, it would appear, has stalled confirmation of the fixture list.
Indications, however, are that things will get underway with the MTN8 on August 14, but this hasn’t been officially communicated by the league to its board of governors.
