Premier Soccer League Promotion/Relegation Play-Off
Result: Platinum Stars 0-0 Jomo Cosmos
Date: 23 May 2018
Venue: Moruleng Stadium
Platinum Stars’ chances of saving their Absa Premiership status were dealt a blow after they drew 0-0 with Jomo Cosmos in the PSL Playoffs at Moruleng Stadium on Wednesday night.
Stars accumulated their first point in the mini-league while Cosmos moved to two points from their fist two matches, trailing leaders Leopards by two points.
Ezenkosi started this week's match the stronger of the two teams and, after 10 minutes, were threatening with their attack intent.
Tebogo Makobela nearly opened the scoring for Jomo Sono’s charges in a sensational manner in the 16th minute with a brilliant volley from just outside the box, but Stars goalkeeper Dino Visser made a save.
Ezenkosi goalkeeper King Ndlovu then denied Dikwena the breakthrough in the 22nd minute with a crucial save after striker Bonginkosi Ntuli had brilliantly angled a shot inside the box.
Roger De Sa’s troops were gaining momentum after 35 minutes and were creating meaningful chances, although the two sides went into the break goalless following a gutsy defensive display from Sono’s men.
Ezenkosi were more adventurous after the break but could not carve out clear chances.
The hosts were lacking the intensity they finished the first stanza with and towards the hour mark, they were struggling to break down Cosmos’ defensive block.
Thato Lingwati almost broke the deadlock for Ezenkosi in the 65th minute with a back-heel inside the box but he missed narrowly wide.
Ntuli got an opportunity to find the back of the net for Dikwena 15 minutes before time with a header inside the box but the striker could not find the target.
De Sa’s men increased the intensity and found attacking momentum with five minutes to go but neither side could carve out a clear chance as the spoils were shared on the day.
