Dikwena Flirting With Relegation, Leopards Remain Top

PSL Promotion/Relegation Play-Offs

Result: Platinum Stars 2-2 Black Leopards

Date: 26 May 2018

Venue: Moruleng Stadium

Black Leopards maintained top spot of the PSL Promotion/Relegation Playoff standings after playing to an entertaining 2-2 draw with Platinum Stars on Saturday.

Letsie Koapeng should have opened the scoring for Stars in the 10th minute with a volleyed strike inside the box,  but he fired over the crossbar.

Koapeng made amends in the 23rd minute with a clinical strike at the near post following a long throw-in into the area, 1-0.

Lidoda Duvha were a much better team going forward after half-an-hour following a slow start, where they were mainly absorbing the pressure.

However, the pace and intensity of the match fizzled out with five minutes to go as the Dikwena players were already anticipating the half-time break.

Mwape Musonda replied for Lidoda Duvha five minutes into the second stanza with a sensational over-head kick inside the box that found the top corner, 1-1.

Riyaad Norodien had a chance to restore the lead for Dikwena 20 minutes before time with a low strike from just outside the box after he was set up by Mere, but his low effort sailed just wide of the upright.

Musonda was terribly unlucky not to score for Joel Masutha’s men 10 minutes before time with a side-footed strike that hit the top of the crossbar with Visser well beaten.

Koapeng thought he had netted the winner for Dikwena six minutes before time with another top strike at the near post to complete his brace and make it 2-1 to the hosts.

However, Musonda got the equaliser for Leopards two minutes before time and also got his brace in the process as the spoils were shared on the night, leaving Stars still bottom of the table while Leopards are top with five points from three games.

Here's how they lined up:

Stars: Visser, Mkhabela, Mere, Sithole, Mlilo, Mekoa, De Jongh, Norodien, Phiri, Tshabangu, Koapeng .

Subs: Mzimela, Mthethwa, Masalesa, Mnguni, Senne, Ng'ambi, Ntuli.
