Polokwane City Victorious Against Aces

ABSA Premiership

Result: Polokwane City 2-1 Mpumalanga Black Aces

Date: 8 December 2013

Venue: Old Peter Mokaba Stadium

Polokwane City beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in an ABSA Premiership match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Aces were the more offensive team, especially in the first half, but it was City who took the lead through Essau Kanyenda just before half-time.

Onyekachi Okonkwo equalized ten minutes into the second half, before substitute Thabani Mncwango grabbed the winner for City with his first touch of the ball with ten minutes to go.

In just the third minute Onyekachi Okonkwo had a chance from inside the area for Aces, after being setup by Themba Zwane, but his shot went straight at Modiri Marumo.

Okonkwo had another chance in the sixth minute, this time from outside the box, but once again his shot went directly at Marumo who saved.

Clifford Mulenga sent an ambitious long shot wide a minute later, and then Okonkwo tried again from a long way out, but his shot was wide as well.

In the 13th minute Puleng Tlolane tried directly from a free kick but his shot went over the goal.

In the 20th minute Tlolane had another chance from a free kick, after being fouled by Zwane just outside the area, but his shot hit the wall.

In the 29th minute Thabo Qalinge was setup by Mulenga just inside the box, but his effort went across goal and wide to the left.

In the 44th minute Essau Kanyenda ran onto a loose ball on the edge of the box, after some good work by Tlolane to get into that position, and Kanyenda shot past Bafana Nhlapo to give City a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Four minutes into the second-half Okonkwo had another chance for Aces, but once again Marumo foiled him with a good save.

Okonkwo found the equalizer for Aces in the 54th minute, as he ran onto the ball on the edge of the area, and chipped it over Marumo who had come too far out of his goal to make it 1-1.

Siphesihle Nzimande had a real opportunity to give City the lead again in the 64th minute, but he skied his shot from inside the box.

In the 75th minute City substitute Thabo Rakhale sent in a dangerous cross-come-shot, but Nhapo was able to grab it at the near post.

In the 79th minute City were back in the lead, as substitute Thobani Mncwango scored with his first touch as he tapped in at close range from Tlolane's excellent cross.

City's Itumeleng Motsiane had an attempt go over in the 84th minute, and then substitute Donovan Thompson tried for Aces two minutes later from outside the area, but his shot went over.

Another substitute Dennis Masina had a chance in the final seconds for Aces from close range in front of the goal, but somehow his shot went wide to the left.
