Polokwane City coach Boebie Solomons tells Soccer Laduma that the U19 reserve league initiative by the PSL and Multichoice will definitely boost local football.
The crew reported two days ago that the leagues’ governing body and the satellite broadcaster announced the Under 19 reserve league which is set to commence in September 2014 and will include all the PSL clubs' U19 sides.
Mzala welcomed the initiative and said it will help identify talent and market the youngsters while helping the PSL sides to promote the deserving players.
The former Santos mentor also said they will be using their development side, Polokwane City Academy.
“It’s a brilliant idea for the PSL and Multichoice to come up with such an initiative. As a coach, I see it will help in nurturing the talent. In my view, I think SAFA must now follow up with the younger groups. If SAFA can get the inter-provincial tournaments running again then we’ll be taking a good direction towards football development in the country.
“I’d like to also commend the satellite broadcaster for this partnership. The idea will market the game and give youngsters maximum exposure. As Polokwane City, we have a Vodacom (Polokwane City Academy) team that we’ll use. We have earmarked them to be 20-years old but we’ll need to drop their age now to accommodate the U19’s,” said Mzala.
