Solomons To Stay On At City

Polokwane City coach, Boebie Solomons, says that the 2013/14 season was a learning curve for the club as it was their maiden season in the top-flight.

The former Santos mentor revealed that he’s glad to have been part of the team, and the fact that they have survived and retained their PSL status says a lot about the character of the team.

He said they have grown tremendously as a team during the play-offs. 'Mzala' also added that they needed to remember the lessons learnt during the season.

“We’re happy as a team, as are the management, the players and our supporters. This is a perfect way of ending off our first season in the PSL. We just need to ensure we don’t find ourselves in the same situation again. One of the most important lessons we learned was that we need good quality PSL players. If you look at our squad, you will notice that we mainly had inexperienced players. We need to beef up our squad with players capable of competing in the elite league."

“I want to also raise the issue of having no sponsor. It’s very difficult to run a club in the PSL without financial muscle. Due to the play-offs, we also cannot afford to have a long break. The season gets underway in August which means that we need to be ready by then. I signed a two-year contract and I still have a year to go. I will be staying at the club and I aim to make this team a strong one. My target is to build a strong squad and then we can aim for a top eight finish in the 2015/16 season,” added Mzala.

The Cape Town-born coach also thanked the Rise and Shine faithful for their support throughout the season.

“I’d like to thank the supporters for their support throughout the season. They made our job easier because they’ve been there for us along the way. Next season is going to be better because the players know what to expect in terms of challenges. We’d like to urge them to sing more and keep coming to our games,” urged Solomons.
