SAPS Update On Meyiwa’s Murder Case

The South African Police Service (SAPS) are still hopeful of getting to the bottom of the murder case of former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

Following the appearance of the accused in the Pretoria High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Monday this week, the police confirmed that all five men have been remanded in custody, while awaiting trial, which is scheduled for next year.

Furthermore, the police have confirmed that no further arrests have been made since last year’s confirmation of the five accused who are already in custody.

The accused are Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya (Accused 1), Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi (Accused 2), Mthobisi Mncube (Accused 3), Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa (Accused 4) and Sifokuhle Sifiso ‘Nkani’ Ntuli (Accused 5), as confirmed by the police.

Mncube is the alleged shooter in the case, while Ntanzi previously alleged that he was forced by a lawyer to confess to killing the football star – a crime he says he did not commit.

The SAPS’ Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo confirmed that Sibiya has two attempted murder cases in Vosloorus.

Naidoo further confirmed that all the accused will remain in custody, while the trial date has been set for April 2022.

“The accused appeared in court on Monday and have been remanded for trial. The date (of the trial) is April (11). So, that’s the latest so far, as far as I can tell you,” Naidoo told the Siya crew.

Meyiwa was shot and killed in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014, and was allegedly in the presence of well-known singer Kelly Khumalo and some of her family members.

Last year, Police Minister Bheki Cele announced a ‘breakthrough’ in Meyiwa’s murder case, and it has since been alleged that Mncube is the one who allegedly pulled the trigger.
