SuperSport United defensive stalwart Clayton Daniels, has turned out for some of the best teams in the country during his illustrious career. The veteran defender had some words of choice for his star teammates who are being eyed by ‘the big three’.
Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic are some of the teams that the 35-year-old has turned out for in the past.
Now in his sixth season with the Tshwane outfit, ‘Hare’ has seen and done it all, particularly when it comes to bright talents who have made the wrong career decisions.
Daniels’ young teammates have been a topic of discussion of late, with their names being mentioned alongside so-called bigger clubs in the country.
Teboho Mokoena, Aubrey Modiba and Sipho Mbule - who all have long-term contracts with Matsatsantsa, are sought-after names in Mzansi, being courted by the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
However, Daniels feels that the trio should be looking beyond South African borders if they were to make a move, or they are better off staying at Matsatsantsa.
“There are young players that really want to make something of their careers, but I don’t think going to another PSL club will do that for them. For young players like Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule and Aubrey Modiba really have to look at the European market if they want to take their careers to the next level.
“In terms of challenging for trophies and being a big team, I think SuperSport is also one of those. We are always in the running for a league. The only reason players would sign for Chiefs, Pirates or Sundowns is for a bigger pay cheque,” Daniels said.
