Players Are Tired Says Harrison

Mark Harrison was visibly upset after he lost his first game as the Chippa United coach, not disappointed with his players’ performance but instead in their lack of rest-time between matches.

Chippa played their second game in three days as they suffered a 1-0 loss to MP Black Aces in a National First division play-off match at the Themba Senamela Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

They had previously played to a 0-0 draw against Sanots on Wednesday in midweek and Harrison admitted his players were fatigued.

“We were running on empty today, the tank was empty make no mistake,” said Harrison.

“I mean we trained yesterday morning and the players were dead.

“We played Wednesday night and we travelled Thursday, we trained yesterday and we had nothing in the tank and you could see that from kick-off.”

Looking at the goal that his side conceded in the 88th minute, Harrison admitted it was just sloppy defending by his side who failed to pick up second half substitute Dennis Masina who scored within seconds of coming onto the park.

“The worst of it was that when he was coming onto the field we were shouting at the players to pick him up, but they actually just looked at him and left him,” added the Chippa coach.

“It is five minutes to go before the end of the game and you should defend, it is as simple as that, we just switched off.”

Harrison also touched on the pressure his side have been under and bemoaned the fact that their playing schedule has been so erratic.

“Since I have come to the club every game has been a cup final, this has been our eighth and we have had to get a result in every single game we have played and that takes a lot out of the players and all the staff,” said Harrison.

“It is tremendous pressure and the players have been unbelievable, it has probably just one game too far today.

“We needed a few more days rest after Wednesday’s game, the draw of the games went against us and now we have to wait three weeks to play again.”
