Chiefs Debut For Dikwena’s New Signing?
Platinum Stars have bolstered their ranks by signing a former Chippa United and Ajax Cape Town defender, although he may not be ready to face Kaizer Chiefs this weekend.
The Siya crew has previously reported that Erick Chipeta was close to joining Dikwena as they look to shore up their defence for the final few games of the season, with Roger de Sa eager for them to avoid relegation into the National First Division.
Chipeta, 27, was a free agent following his exit from Al Ra’ed earlier this year, leaving the Saudi Arabian Premier League club by mutual termination after the club was found to be in breach of his contract.
The centre back never made his debut for the Saudi club, unlike in Tendai Ndoro’s situation, leaving him free to play for another team this season.
Now it has been confirmed that Chipeta has joined Stars, and it is thought that he has penned a short-term deal with the club as he looks to help them secure their top-flight status, although the Zimbabwean may not be available to face the Glamour Boys as he awaits his paperwork.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma in this week’s edition, De Sa said, "We're just waiting on Home Affairs regarding Chipeta before we can get him playing for us.”
Dikwena go up against Chiefs on Sunday afternoon as they look to make it back-to-back league wins for the first time since May last year following last week’s victory over Polokwane City.
