Despite the Siya crew reporting earlier that Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates had failed to agree on terms over shot-stopper, Siyabonga Mpontshane’s transfer to the Soweto giants, the crew can further reveal that a move to Parktown is still on the cards for the 28-year-old goal minder.
Speaking to the crew, Pirates' Administrative Officer, Floyd Mbele, did not rule out the possibility of Mpontshane becoming a Bucs player when pressed for a comment.
Mpontshane has heavily been linked with a move to Parktown in the current January transfer period, in the wake of Senzo Meyiwa’s death late last year, however the list of goalkeepers being targeted by Pirates has developed and now even includes former Bafana captain and number one from bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs, Itumeleng Khune.
Meanwhile, defender Tshepo Gumede is another player who is expected to join the Buccaneers before the closure of the transfer window in January.
“For now I don’t have anything to say about those players, however, in saying that I’m not saying these players are joining Pirates nor am I dismissing the possibility,” said a guarded Mbele to the Siya crew.
As reported by the crew previously, both players are on the transfer list of Platinum Stars, though Dikwena CEO, Ratanang Nke, did not rule out the possibility of the two remaining with the club.
