Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane wants his side to kill off the league title race as early as possible.
Sundowns secured a comfortable six-point cushion over their title rivals, Orlando Pirates, who are placed second on the league standings, with the Brazilians needing only four points from their upcoming three fixtures in order to win the Absa Premiership title.
Speaking after Sundowns' 1-0 win over Golden Arrows last night, Mosimane said that their Champions League schedule has been playing in their favour, in terms of having to fit in the fixtures while challenging for the domestic title.
“We are stronger and I think the program of the Champions League was slightly different to last year because at this point in time we are coming from somewhere, playing somewhere so, the way they have made the program it suits us to be able to finish the league without Champions League interference,” Mosimane said.
However, Mosimane then went on to say that he wants his side to win the Absa Premiership as early as possible so as to avoid having to focus on both the Wydad Casablanca Champions League fixture and trying to win the league.
“Okay, (the) Wydad game is coming before the league stops, but you don’t want to go there – you don’t want to get results on Wydad and you have to win the league so that is what we are trying to do and the boys are aware of that and they are trying to kill it as early as possible but it is not easy,” he added.
Sundowns will need just four points from their remaining league games to be crowned Absa Premiership champions.
