Mosimane Investigated By Police

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane is believed to be under investigation by the police for an alleged charge of common assault.

Following a football match between AmaZulu and Sundowns at Umlazi’s King Zwelithini Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on September 16, Mosimane allegedly assaulted one of the security officers present at the match venue.

It has been confirmed to the Siya crew by AmaZulu that the security officer in question is 49-year-old Nathi Ngwenya who is the head of Ngwelela Security Services, the company overseeing security at the home matches of Usuthu.

AmaZulu’s team manager Qedi Dlamini, who previously worked for the South African Police Service and had also been head of security for the Durban-based outfit in the past, confirmed to the Siya crew that a case has been opened with the police by the security officer in question.

“The case has been opened by the security officer himself because he said he was humiliated and that happened in front of the people. It was not opened by us (AmaZulu) as the club,” said Dlamini.

“He is from the company that works for us. He is not an employee of AmaZulu but he is from a service provider to AmaZulu. The name of the company he is from is Ngwelela Security Services,” added the Usuthu official.

Attempts have been made to get a comment from Ngwenya, but the Siya crew has been informed that the security officer is currently not ready to talk about the incident.

“Ngwenya is reluctant to talk about the incident or the matter itself at the moment because it has since been reported to the police. Maybe you can try and speak to the police about it to hear what they have to say,” a source close to Ngwenya told the Siya crew.

As previously reported, there has been no official comment from Mosimane nor Sundowns on the matter.

Contacted for comment, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane from the SAPS in KwaZulu-Natal confirmed to the Siya crew that a case against a ‘known suspect’ has been opened.

“During a soccer match at the stadium in D section on 16 September 2018, a 49-year-old male was allegedly assaulted with a clenched fist by a known suspect. A case of assault was opened at Umlazi police station for investigation,” confirmed the police officer.

The Brazilians have been contacted for a comment, but there has been no reply from the club at the time of publishing.
