Following a tough 1-0 win over AmaZulu in an Absa Premiership match on Tuesday night, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said his team know how to win ugly.
AmaZulu, who currently sit at the bottom of the league table, put up a real tough fight and only a single goal from Cuthbert Malajila handed the Brazilians the win.
“We didn’t allow them to come at us, they pushed us to one side,” said Mosimane after the game.
“I just told Steve (Barker), ‘what a game’.
“If AmaZulu are going to play like this, I want to know who is next, it is unbelievable.
“I have a lot of experience and I told the guys we will grind this game and take one chance to win.
“We know how to play dirty, we know how to play nice – tonight was not about all those things.
“Take the game, take one goal, they are dangerous.
“We have to grind the results, we know how to play ugly.”
Mosimane rotated his squad a bit for the game against AmaZulu and gave praise to Asavela Mbekile who started in midfield.
“I try to give every player a chance, but I am cautious on rotation,” added Mosimane.
“Today I gave (Asavela) Mbekile a chance and I am so happy he gave his best. You must understand that he hasn’t been playing for long and he doesn’t have the legs.
“We rotated a little bit where we can, but not much.”
Mosimane concluded with praise for his opponents on the night and said other teams have something to worry about when they face AmaZulu.
“I told Steve Barker that if he plays like this I understand why Pirates came from behind to beat them. If they play like this I don’t believe they can lose,” concluded the Sundowns coach.
