Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane revealed that no other side’s challenge this season could be compared to the race that the Brazilians are currently running.
While challenging for domestic honours in both the cup and Absa Premiership campaign, Mosimane’s side are also doing their work on the continent, as they look to progress further and further in the CAF Champions League campaign.
Speaking to the media, Mosimane revealed that Sundowns are used to challenging for titles and cups while having a busy schedule and thinks that no other team can be compared to his side.
“Mamelodi Sundowns have had this program. That’s why I said, if you want to run a comrades marathon, you cannot compare yourself with us when you are running a 42 marathon. 42 and 98 is totally different. So you must run the same race and then you can talk. As long as you are running slow races, you can’t talk. You can compare yourself to other people. We are not new to this program.
Last year we (didn’t) make it. We lost the league in the same program, from three points. The year before, we made it with the same program. The program just tests our characters and makes us a stronger and a bigger team
The Brazilians’ head coach then went on to say that the only difficulty when challenging for the league title, is coming up against well-rested teams, implying that Pirates are going to take them right to the wire, despite Sundowns being on top of the log.
“The difficulties are that somewhere somehow you might be running a race with well-rested teams and they don’t have the heavy program.”
“When we were running the race with Wits, they were well rested. We are running the race with Pirates (now) and you know how many games they’re playing. They are well rested, so they are going to give us a run for our money, they are fresh,” he added.
