Orlando Pirates have questioned the timing of Platinum Stars defender Benson Mhlongo’s allegations that he was asked by Pirates to sign insurance papers to declare his football career over.
Mhlongo made these claims after Dikwena beat Pirates 3-1 on penalties to claim the MTN8 this past weekend.
“The question is, why now? Benson Mhlongo must enjoy gloating over their win against us in the MTN8 and leave us to focus on our CAF Champions League,” Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane told the Siya crew.
“From the club’s side, we’re not going to respond to Mhlongo’s insurance paper allegations. All that we’re saying is that Benson Mhlongo is no longer a Pirates player.
“Our priority now is that our injured players must recover from their injuries and that we do well in our upcoming match against Esperance. Nothing else is a priority for us,” added Modisane.
Mhlongo suffered a broken leg while playing for Pirates against AmaZulu in 2009. It was thought that his football career was over after the injury but Mhlongo recovered and joined Stars.
