Orlando Pirates will depart for Egypt today to play African giants Al Ahly in a CAF Champions League fixture on Sunday evening.
This crucial Group A match will be played at the Military Stadium in Cairo on Sunday at 20:00 (22:00 SA time).
Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane told the Siya crew that the Buccaneers have booked their tickets and are ready to leave for Cairo.
“Everything has been sorted in as far as the visas and tickets are concerned. We are ready to leave to go to Egypt,” said Modisane
There was some uncertainty on whether this game would take place this weekend, after Ahly sent a letter to CAF requesting the match be moved to next week, because of Ramadan, although CAF turned down the request.
Pirates have confirmed that they have received a letter from CAF stating that the match will go ahead as planned.
“The Club has received a letter from CAF which states that despite the fact that the socio political situation in that North African country being volatile, the hosting of the match will be under no threat. It (the letter) further reads that this epic clash will be played behind closed doors,” read on orlandopiratesfc.com.
