Result: Pirates 2-3 Maritzburg
Date: 18 May 2013
Venue: Orlando Stadium
Orlando Pirates ended a disappointing 2012/13 season in negative fashion as they lost 3-2 at home to Maritzburg United on Saturday.
Tlou Segolela had put Pirates ahead but Heinrich Isaacks drew level. Khethokwakhe Masuku restored the advantage on the hour mark but late strikes from Ryan de Jongh and Cuthbert Malajila turned the game around.
Pirates were hoping to finish the game on a high by slipping into second place while Maritzburg were hoping to sneak into the top eight.
The Sea Robbers were forced into an early change when the injured Thandani Ntshumayelo had to be replaced by Manti Moholo.
The opening goal arrives soon after though as Segolela got onto the end of a cross from Happy Jele to nod the ball home.
Masuka then went close before Orlando Semekes worked Senzo Meyiwa at the other end. The Pirates stopper had to be alert again moments later to keep out Delron Buckley.
Jele would go on to waste a good opportunity after the break and that would be punished when Isaacks pounced to tuck away the equaliser in the 58th minute.
They had hardly finished celebrating when Pirates responded though as a Masuku finished off a pass from Segolela.
Maritzburg refused to give up the fight and with four minutes to go De Jongh rifled in the equaliser from inside the area and Malajila struck in the dying seconds to deny the Buccaneers.
