Juju On PSL Title Race: Sundowns Is Under Pressure

Pirates And Sundowns To Battle It Out For The Title

By Soccer Laduma - Mar 22, 2018 09:59 AM

The race to the Absa Premiership title is expected to be an interesting one, with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates seemingly prepared to push each other all the way.

Sundowns are eager to reclaim the trophy they missed out on last season by finishing in second place after Bidvest Wits walked away with the title. Having last won the trophy in the 2015/16 season, before losing it to Wits last season, Downs are on a mission to reclaim the trophy.

So far in the current campaign, Pitso Mosimane has led the team to the top of the PSL log, with 43 points from 23 matches.

Pirates are close behind them in second on the standings with 42 points from 24 matches. Former Pirates striker, Thulasizwe Mbuyane, believes that Sundowns may be under pressure to do well, with the busy schedule ahead of them.

“Look, Sundowns is under pressure. As much as they (Sundowns) are trying to win the league, they are also competing in Africa. The only focus for Pirates right now is the league. They are no longer in the Nedbank Cup,” said Mbuyane.

“As much as some people were saying that Sundowns has already taken the league, it’s going to be difficult because of their other commitments. They still have to travel to Africa and come back to play in the Nedbank Cup. They will have to catch up in the league. They are one point above Pirates on the log at the moment with a game in hand. But what matters the most is that Pirates have points in the bag. They played and won. Sundowns still have to go and play to win,” added the former midfielder.

“So, it’s a bit tricky. Sundowns work very hard but I’m hoping that they don’t get fatigued. Pirates use it to their advantage to win their games when teams get fatigued. The challenge will be to see how Sundowns will respond to the CAF, league and Nedbank Cup commitments,” concluded Juju.

@sfisom2018 hahaha but truth be told mchana we need this league more than downs and we are the favourites to win it if you ask me coz that's our only main focus!unlike downs who are focusing on 3 cups I know they claim to have under control but they will eventually show cracks!

Downs may have strong squad with depth but let's face it they (players) themselves are not terminators, one way or thee other they will crack under pressure and fumble in one of the three competitions, and the Bucs family hope and pray it's the league they squander.

Mbuyane must have stolen Ntshumayelo's stuff. I mean, there is a lot of quality at Marabastad. Pizza won the league before while still competing in CCL. I don't see Pizza tiring his key players for Nedbank cup that only guarantees CCC.
