Following his competitive Kaizer Chiefs debut last night, young goalkeeper, Reyaad Pieterse, paid tribute to the club’s number one, Itumeleng Khune.
The Amakhosi claimed an emphatic victory over Polokwane City on the evening, winning 4-1 over the PSL newboys to take themselves up to third place on the table.
However, with Chiefs up 3-0, there was a shock change at half time when Stuart Baxter decided to substitute Khune for Pieterse, choosing to give the youngster a run out, though it was later revealed that Khune was dealing with a hamstring strain.
Reneilwe Letsholonyane took the skipper’s armband in Khune’s absence, while Pieterse went on to give a good account of himself between the sticks.
Despite the fact that City got a late consolation goal through Puleng Tlolane, which was down to bad defending rather than a goalkeeping error, the youngster will be happy with his PSL debut.
After the game Khune tweeted his congratulations to Pieterse, saying, “@REE_DA_1 made his Debut 2nyt against PLK City, great saves u made out there boy. keep up the gud work. Chiefs is blessed in the GK department.”
Pieterse replied shortly after with “@IIKHUNE_32_16 Thanks 2 u 4 all the words of wisdom and encouragement it means a lot. thanks 4 being a great role model.”
