Word coming out of the Orlando Pirates camp is that defender Patrick Phungwayo will undergo a scan later today to determine the extent of his injury.
Phungwayo suffered the injury during Pirates’ penalty shoot-out loss to Platinum Stars in the MTN8 this past Saturday.
The left back then posted a message on Twitter saying that his season was over. However, Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane told the Siya crew that it may not be the case, depending on what the test results reveal.

“No player can declare himself out of action until the end of the season without first being assessed,” said Modisane.
“Patrick was obviously disappointed by his Achilles tendon injury and he thought that was it for him for the season but the scan will tell us the extent of his injury. Obviously, we’re hoping that it won’t be a long term injury,” added Modisane.

Meanwhile, Modisane said that the Pirates medical team is also monitoring midfielder Sifiso Myeni’s progress.
“We’re hoping that he will be ready for Saturday’s game against Esperance,” concluded Modisane.
Pirates will take on Esperance in a CAF Champions League first leg semi-final clash at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.
