Orlando Pirates have announced that left back Patrick Phungwayo will be out of action for at least 12 weeks after undergoing an operation on his injured Achilles tendon.
As reported by the Siya crew yesterday, Phungwayo underwent the operation on Monday but at the time, Pirates' PRO Mickey Modisane couldn’t confirm to the Siya crew how long the defender would be out for.
A statement on orlandopiratesfc.com has since confirmed that Phungwayo will be out for at least 12 weeks.
“According to a medical report sent to OPFC.com, the dazzling fullback has undergone a successful operation and is now going through the recovery process which is estimated at 12 weeks,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, according to orlandopiratesfc.com midfielder Sifiso Myeni, who is suffering from a groin strain, continues to receive treatment and will be re-evaluated on Thursday.
The good news for Bucs is that midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo has made significant improvement in his fitness levels and should be available for selection for this Saturday’s CAF Champions League semi-final against Esperance of Tunisia.
