Orlando Pirates defender Patrick Phungwayo has declared that his season is over following his injury in their MTN8 final defeat to Platinum Stars.
Phungwayo went down injured with 35 minutes gone in the game but after some treatment he returned to the field. He was clearly not comfortable though and sat down a second time before coming off on a stretcher.
Thabo Matlaba came on to replace him and went on to equalise for Pirates late on to push the game to extra-time - though the Sea Robbers lost 3-1 in a penalty shootout.
Reacting to the result and confirming the extent of his injury, Phungwayo turned to Twitter, saying, "Hard lucky boys and its confirmed I'm out my season is over."
Andile Jali was on the park for Pirates in the game, after a second opinion revealed that he was not due to be sidelined for months as originally diagnosed, and the Sea Robbers could be hoping that Phungwayo's knock also turns out to be less serious than is currently thought - especially considering the good run the player has enjoyed recently.
