Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker, Phil Masinga, believes that Pitso Mosimane is building a squad of talented players that can handle the extra games this season, much like what is done at teams like Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Sundowns will be competing in local competitions as well as the CAF Champions League, which will require him to rotate players. The Brazilians already have a host of top quality stars in attack, such as Keagan Dolly, Leonardo Castro, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Khama Billiat.
With this in mind, when asked about the recent signing of Thapelo Morena, Masinga has explained that this kind of deal indicates that coach Pitso Mosimane will be looking to build strength in depth to deal with the tightly packed schedule.
“I think for Pitso, he knows very well that he’s going to have a very long season,” he told Soccer Laduma. “They will play in all the local competitions, and also the Champions League. So for him it’s important to have a strong squad and a big pool of players, so that whenever there’s any fatigue or injuries they have players that can easily come in and replace each other.”
Masinga went on to compare the Brazilians to European giants, Real Madrid and Manchester City, who also have to deal with a tight fixture list.
“Bigger teams like Real Madrid and Manchester City have a big pool of players. They play more games than other teams and it’s important to have that big pool of players.”
