Phala Eyeing CHAN 2014

Supersport United and Bafana Bafana midfielder, Thuso Phala, has revealed to the Siya crew that he is excited to be called up for the friendly international between South Africa and Swaziland that gets underway tomorrow night at the Somhlolo Stadium in Mbabane, Swaziland.

Phalafala, as he is affectionately known in football circles, said he is excited by the call-up to represent his country and that he is looking forward to the game against Isihlangu Somnikati.

“Obviously every player is waiting for such an opportunity to play for his country. This is an opportunity for us a country to get our confidence high ahead of the Spain game next week. Because the coach didn’t call me for the game against Morocco doesn’t mean I have changed my style of play. I have just kept working hard because if I’m not called up, that doesn’t mean I’m not part of Bafana set up,” said Phala.

Although Swaziland are not regarded as a power house in football, the former Platinum Stars winger told the Siya crew that in international football, there are no small teams or games.

“It’s always difficult playing against a small country like Swaziland. We just need to work hard as they will be motivated to play against Bafana. We cannot undermine them but the fact that we have a better league structure must be evident on the day. If we go out there and play to the best of our abilities, I believe we can get a good result.

“I have 11 caps so this is an opportunity to work hard in training and aim to increase my caps in the national team. My aim is to represent the country in the CHAN 2014 tournament in January next year and every player in the PSL wishes to be part of that tournament as it is equivalent to the CAF Cup of Nations. I plan to keep working very hard and possibly get a call up for the tournament,” added the Soweto-born midfielder.
