Phakamani Mahlambi’s agent, Glyn Binkin, has confirmed to the Siya crew that the Bidvest Wits youngster has begun the long road to recovery, after undergoing a successful operation.
Mahlambi, 18, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and has been ruled out for up to nine months.
“By accounts of the medical staff, the operation was successful. It’s now a long road ahead for his rehab to get him back to fitness,” said Binkin.
Having been impressive for Wits this season under the guidance of Gavin Hunt, Mahlambi had been expected to go on and play an important role for Owen da Gama’s South African national under-23 team in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in August.
But with that dream having been crushed by the injury, the player has changed focus into recovering from the setback and to start planning for next season.
