Parker: I’m Not Yet Sharp Enough

Despite scoring five goals in his last four games for club and country, Kaizer Chiefs forward Bernard Parker says that he’s not yet reached his peak.

The 27-year-old is in a rich vein of form at present, having scored in all three of Chiefs' PSL games this season as well as grabbing three in his last two appearances for Bafana.

In the 2-1 friendly defeat against Zimbabwe this week, Parker was handed the captain’s armband by Gordon Igesund, although his late goal was nothing but a consolation strike.

Speaking to Chiefs’ official website he said it was an honour to captain his nation. He said, “It is an honour to represent my country and wearing the captain’s armband on Tuesday was a highlight for me. I thank the Coach for showing trust in me as one of the senior players. It was disappointing at the end of the day to lose the game at home.”

Despite his fine form, Parker says there’s still more to come. He went on, “I feel I am not yet sharp enough yet as compared to last season for instance. I am going to continue working hard on my sharpness.

“We are looking forward to the game against Maritzburg United. They have given us tough times in the past and it will not be different come Saturday, but we have set our sight on making a comeback following a loss in our last game against SuperSport United.”

Chiefs take on Maritzburg at FNB Stadium this weekend as they look to beat the Team of Choice in the league for the first time in four attempts.
