The latest news reaching Soccer-Laduma is that Santos FC coach, Ian Palmer, is being targeted by Platinum Stars, as the Phokeng-based club look to replace Cavin Johnson on the Dikwena bench, following his departure to SuperSport United.
Johnson was announced as SuperSport’s new head coach earlier in the week, with the Siya crew subsequently indicating that Allan Freese and Willem Jackson would be taking over the reigns at Dikwena.
However, Stars have seemingly increased their search for a new coach with Palmer believed to be top of their short-list, with the club also looking at Chippa United head coach, Mark Harrison.
A Soccer-Laduma source in Rustenburg told the crew that Palmer is the odds-on favourite to land the job.
“From what they have discussed they want to bring in Ian (Palmer) and they are just waiting to see how things go with Santos in the play-offs, and if it doesn't work, then Mark Harrison is their next target,” said the source.
However his agent, Karabo Mathang of P Management, said they haven't spoken to any club, with Palmer committed to Santos.
“He is a Santos coach and that's the job he is committed to. I don't know anything about another team because no one has spoken to us as they know he is at Santos,” Mathang explained.
