Orlando Pirates' technical director of the youth development, Augusto Palacios, is confident that Jimmy Tau still has the quality to play football at the highest level.
Tau, who captained both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates among some of his achievements in recent times, parted ways with the Amakhosi on Thursday afternoon.
The 32-year-old worked with Palacios at the Pirates’ first team before his move to Chiefs. “The only thing I can tell you about him is that he is a very good player. He is very committed to his job. He is a hard worker. He is disciplined. The player likes the challenge. I can say a lot about Jimmy Tau.
"He is a very dedicated player. I believe that he matured very quickly when he first emerged. I believe that Pirates laid a good foundation for him. With his discipline I think he can still play. A player cannot be judged based on just his age. A player needs to be judged by performance.
"He did well at Chiefs. He was good at attacking and created chances. The only problem for him is that he had bad luck with injuries. I wish him all the best. He must stay confident like Lucky Lekgwathi and forget about injuries,” said Palacios.
