‘We Just Have To Shut Up And Play The Game’

Owen da Gama wants to refrain from commenting on decisions made by officials, saying that it is better to "shut up and play the game."

The Highlands Park head coach is one of five coaches who received letters from the Premier Soccer League following comments made about a match referee in previous encounters.

Speaking after their 0-0 draw against Cape Town City on the weekend, Da Gama admitted that he is relieved to not have any controversial decisions (such as a penalty) going against his side, after conceding two penalties in their previous three league encounters.

“I am honest, on any other day, it could have gone either way,” da Gama told the media after the game.

“I don’t know what it is, whether it is I, whether because I had a lash out at one of the linesman and I was summoned to the DC, maybe it is that I don’t know.

“But we just have to focus on our game and unfortunately, you have got no recourse, there is no recourse in South Africa. Whatever you say, could be held against you, or be looked at in a negative connotation so we just have to shut up and play the game and hopefully things will turn for the better,” he added.
