Bucs’ Captain Reflects On Pre-Season & Progress Of New Players
Orlando Pirates Take Aim At Highlands Park In Season Opener
Orlando Pirates’ Happy Jele has no doubts that the team’s pre-season has been successful and that the new players signed by the club are getting used to how things are done at the Soweto giants.
Following their return from Zambia where the second phase of the team’s pre-season was held, after the first phase in Nelspruit, the Buccaneers continued with the new season’s preparations by playing competitive matches against the likes of Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC in the Mother City.
With the preparations now in the final stages, as head coach Milutin Sredojevic and the team are getting ready to host Highlands Park at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening in their first match of the 2018/19 season, Jele has reflected on the pre-season that has been for Bucs.
“The pre-season has been good. Each and every one has put in effort, and even the new guys are gelling very well with the team. Everyone wants to do well for the team, so I believe that so far so good,” Jele told the media this week.
With Bucs having confirmed that Abel Mabaso is set to miss two of the team’s opening matches of the season due to suspension, Jele has confirmed that all the other new signings have been gelling well with the team.
The likes of Brilliant Khuzwayo, Kudakwashe Mahachi and Vincent Pule are some of Bucs’ signings who will be looking forward to making their names in the club’s colours this season after being signed from respective clubs during this transfer window.
“The new guys are going to help the team going forward. They (Pirates) signed good players and for us we’ll have to just push them and to make sure that they don’t have pressure. They need to be calm because they need to perform for the team. It’s very important to perform very well because Pirates is big and there’s always pressure. We as senior players have to make sure that we make them calm so that they can enjoy their football,” added Jele.
