How The Goal That Earned Bucs Star A PSL Award Was Scored

Orlando Pirates Striker Talks Scoring Goals

He is the recipient of the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month award for February, Justin Shonga has explained how he netted the wonderful strike against Chippa United.

The Orlando Pirates striker reveals what Bucs’ assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena told him prior to scoring that goal.

“That game against Chippa was tough because we had to come from behind and chase the result. I remember when we went into the changing rooms, the coaches said that this was not a game where we needed to play fancy football, we just needed to play smart and finish the game off. When we started the second half, I remember thinking “I just need to score, I just need to score, whatever chance I get, and I just need to score”. It wasn’t long afterwards that the game started to change,” Shonga told Pirates’ official website.

“Coach Rhulani called me back asked me if I knew what my strengths were, what I’m made of, and what I can do. I told him about my power and he sent me off and told me to make use of it. Immediately after he said that I scored my first goal. When Thembinkosi Lorch scored our third goal it was still very tight because Chippa had been attacking us. We had a one-goal lead at that stage and knew that they could come back at any moment. We didn’t let them back in though, because as they were trying to settle, I scored the fourth goal. They opened the door, just an inch, and that’s all I needed to put my technique to work and hit the ball with power,” said the Zambian.

If it was Gabuza he would have failed to follow those instructions, but he kept on believing he is a great striker.

@wash & wear, low down your tone young man. Your comment under reply is distasteful. Overall, Downs and fau are partly responsible for the popularity enjoyed by Micho, Nyatama and Shonga at the moment, Bucs would have been 6 points less had Downs and fau won their last league encounters against them. Our teams are not blameless victims. It will be Micho, Nyatama, Shonga, e.t.c, for the rest of the season. Enjoy it young man.
