Two of the players from the current high flying Orlando Pirates squad have impressed one of the team’s former players, who is considered a legend for his role at the club during his playing days.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Tonic Chabalala has revealed that he has been impressed with Luvuyo Memela and Justin Shonga for their performances this season.
“For me, Memela is one of the players (who has) done well so far. He has been doing well whenever he has been given an opportunity to play. What I like about the current Pirates team is that they play as a unit. But Memela is one of those players who are able to turn things on, with his individual performance. He is someone that when things aren’t happening for the team, he is able to step up and come with a plan to make things happen,” the former defender said.
Earlier in the week, on Thursday, the PSL confirmed that Pirates’ Milutin Sredojevic is the recipient of the Coach of the Month award for March, while midfielder Musa Nyatama walked away with the Player of the Month award for the same month.
In addition, Justin Shonga’s second goal, which was Pirates’ fourth in the 4-2 win against Chippa United, got him the Goal of the Month award for the month of February.
“Shonga has come to the party since joining Pirates. It’s always good to have competition in the team because it creates a situation where everybody has to fight for a position. He has been impressive,” concluded Chabalala.
