After being left out of the Bucs squad completely, to playing second fiddle to Brighton Mhlongo and Jackson Mabokgwane, indications are that Mpontshane is on his way to sealing his place in Head Coach Kjell Jonevret’s starting line-up.
The 31-year-old has been first choice between the sticks in the past four Absa Premiership matches, as well as the Nedbank Cup campaign so far.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Mpontshane revealed which other goalkeeper’s trade he admires besides Khune’s.
“It’s Denis Onyango. His situation was similar to mine. When he arrived at Mamelodi Sundowns, he was third or fourth choice, but he persevered. He was on the bench for a long time but now you won’t touch him with the way he is playing. That means he was working hard. He doesn’t shout a lot. He is cool. He plays like me and crosses don’t go past him,” Mpontshane said.
